About Walt Balenovich and Travels in a Blue Chair

Text Box:

Walt had polio when he was 12 weeks old and spent the first 5 years of his life in the hospital.  After finally being released, he entered kindergarten, used coloured towels and ate non-flaked potatoes. Walt ultimately finished school, and became an I.T. consultant, which allowed him to travel after completing one of his contracts, which usually spanned six months to a year.

Originally from Welland, Walt currently resides in the community of Lakeshore Village in Toronto.  He enjoys the outdoors, especially camping and canoeing with friends in Ontario, and can usually be spotted wheeling 10 km. a day through the streets along the lakeshore to help keep fit for his trips.

Walt began to travel as a bench-warming athlete and coach, in wheelchair basketball, rugby and sledge hockey, and as a volunteer in disabled sports, as the Athletic Director of the Niagara District Wheelchair Sports Association and  V.P. of Development for the Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association.

Walt has spent parts of the last 15 years travelling the world, including all of the world's habitable continents.  After writing emails home to friends and family outlining the often hilarious adventures and problems that came up while on holiday, the comment was invariably the same - "YOU SHOULD WRITE A BOOK"! So he has.

Why not cuddle up with Walt tonight and read a few stories before bedtime? You are sure to enjoy them!

A portion of the sales of each book will be contributed to support Rotary International’s vaccination program to eradicate polio in the third world.
